2. Understanding Our Approach & Your Coverage

Why Occupational Therapy (OT)?

Our team is primarily composed of Mental Health Occupational Therapists. If you are looking for a Psychologist, it is important to know that while we do not have Psychologists on staff, our Mental Health OTs are fully qualified and regulated to provide counselling and psychotherapy.

For many of our clients, combining modern mental health therapy with the functional, action-oriented approach that Occupational Therapy provides is highly effective. We focus not just on talking through issues, but on practical skills and strategies to help you feel and function better in your daily life.

* Standard Coverage: Services provided by our team are typically billed under "Occupational Therapy", or "Clinical Counseling" and "Psychotherapist" for our dual-credentialed staff. We recommend checking your benefit booklet for these specific categories.

* Health Spending Accounts (HSA): If you have an HSA, it acts as a universal fund and will cover 100% of any Mindful Rehab health service.

* Tax Deductable: All out-of-pocket healthcare expenses with Mindful Rehab are tax deductable.

* Financial Flexibility: We believe in removing barriers to care. If financial constraints are preventing you from getting support, please book a free 15-minute consultation. Your therapist will discuss their limited sliding-scale options with you during that call to see what flexible arrangements are possible.

3. How We Meet: The Remote-Based, Community-First Model

Mindful Rehab defaults to a flexible, remote-based, and virtual model. We're happy to meet you where you are most comfortable. While some of our clinicians independently maintain private office spaces (which will be noted in their profiles above), our primary modes of session delivery include:

* Virtual Sessions: The most flexible option, ideal for complex schedules, convenience, or if you live outside a clinician's immediate driving radius.

* Walking Sessions: Highly recommended for active processing, regulation, and for those who find face-to-face eye contact fatiguing. We utilize local outdoor spaces based on your clinician's location.

* Community Sessions: We can meet in quiet community spaces (like libraries or cafes) or conduct home visits, depending on the clinician's parameters and service needs.

* In-Office: Available only by specific request with select clinicians who maintain an independent physical space.

4. Privacy, Safety, & Regulatory Standards

Your safety and privacy are our highest priorities. As a team of independent, regulated healthcare providers in Alberta, we operate under strict professional guidelines.

Data Privacy (Health Information Act)

We comply fully with Alberta’s Health Information Act (HIA) and federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) regulations. This means:

* Your personal and medical information is stored on secure, encrypted, and regulation-compliant servers.

* We collect only the information necessary to provide your care.

* You have the right to access your clinical records at any time.

* We will never share your information with third parties (including employers or family members) without your explicit, written consent, except where mandated by law (e.g., risk of imminent harm).

Professional Standards

All our practitioners are regulated by the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Staff who hold additional counseling licenses also adhere to their respective professional colleges and licensing bodies. This ensures that every assessment, treatment plan, and therapy session meets rigorous provincial healthcare standards.

Crisis Support & Emergency Protocol

Mindful Rehab administrative staff and our automated assistants are not equipped for crisis intervention.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, having thoughts of self-harm, or feel you are a danger to yourself or others, please stop using this site immediately and:

* Call 911 or proceed to your nearest hospital emergency room.

* Call or text the Alberta Distress Line at 211 for immediate, 24/7 support.

* Call or text the Suicide Crisis Helpline at 988.
